TECHNICAL DETAILS

Mold Design & Manufacturing:
what to know.

We design and make open-face, two-part, multi-part and jacketed silicone molds to suit the product geometry and casting material. Masters are produced by 3D printing or CNC, and we can deliver finished cast parts along with the mold.

Mold methods
Open-face, two-part, multi-part and jacketed (mother mold) silicone molds
Master model
Designed in 3D CAD, made by 3D printing or CNC
Delivery
Mold only, or mold + finished cast parts
Mold life
Depends on material and geometry; multiple molds planned for higher quantities
Lead time
Calculated in the quote from size, material, curing and quantity

Casting materials

  • Flexible polyurethane
  • Rigid polyurethane
  • Epoxy resin
  • Silicone
  • Plaster
  • Concrete
  • Wax (molds)
  • Soap (molds)

Typical applications

  • Flexible PU castings
  • Functional prototypes and samples
  • Reproducing decorative objects and figures
  • Low-volume parts from silicone molds
  • Box and packaging prototypes
  • Master models for plastic/composite products
  • Parting line, sprues, venting, shrinkage and demolding are designed in.
  • We make molds for wax and soap; finished casting in these materials and quantities are agreed separately.
  • Food-contact or medically certified applications are not promised until documentation and compliance are verified.
  • Vacuum forming and industrial injection molding are not part of our routine service.
  • Process: requirements and material CAD/master parting and sprue plan mold making and curing first test cast corrections if needed delivery.

FOR YOUR PROJECT

What should we clarify before quoting?

Define the product and target material

Share the product model or references, dimensions and intended material. Mold requirements are reviewed around the final product.

Review the mold approach

Product geometry, parting points and production quantity affect mold design. Discuss the intended use and expected production plan.

Separate design and manufacturing scope

Tell us whether you need mold design, a physical mold or a broader manufacturing project. Deliverables are agreed during quoting.

ABOUT THIS SERVICE

Frequently asked questions.

What is needed for a mold quote?

Start with product geometry, approximate dimensions, target material, quantity and any existing model. Mold design and manufacturing scope are reviewed from this information.

Can I start a mold project without a finished model?

Yes. Our mesh and CAD design service can be discussed as part of preparing the product data. Product geometry and dimensions are defined before the mold approach.

Which silicone mold methods do you use?

Depending on geometry: open-face, two-part split, multi-part and jacketed silicone molds. Masters can be made by 3D printing or suitable CNC machining.

Can I get just the mold, or the cast parts too?

Both. We can produce finished castings in polyurethane/epoxy, silicone, plaster and concrete. For wax and soap we make the molds; finished casting and quantities are agreed separately.

How many times can a silicone mold be used?

There is no fixed number. Mold life depends on the silicone, casting material, part geometry, release agent and handling. For higher quantities we plan several molds.
